An elk herd grazes in the foothills south of Missoula, Montana.

Elk! February 12, 2008

Check out the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

Yesterday I was out riding my bike, looked up at the hills, and saw an elk herd. Whoa! Believe me, I am a lucky person to be able to see elk from my home in town. Today I found them again, drove to the edge of a subdivision south of town and took this picture.

The trouble with elk country is a lot of folks think it would be a nice place for a house, but houses and elk don't mix. Period. I envision the day when this elk herd won't be seen here again. Folks need to be careful about not spoiling the reasons why they live here. Just because you own a nice piece of ground doesn't mean you should build a house there. Talk to the Elk Foundation. They can help you make good decisions about your land. After all we're not here for long, and we have a duty to "Pass It On."
